Book Publishing
For book publishing, people have four primary options. The first is by using a commercial publishing company, second is by self-publishing, and third is with subsidy publishing, and fourth, eBook publishing. Each of these publishing options is handled in a unique way. Additionally, while one type of publishing might work for one person, another writer might find that he or she needs something else. Learning about the four methods for publishing a book will help people determine the right choice.
The first option for book publishing with a commercial publishing company but of all possibilities, this is probably the most challenging. Today, thousands of different publishing houses exist but considering the growing number of writers, people need something unique and powerful for the company to accept the work. This type of business has one goal in mind - to make money. Therefore, if they do not believe the piece trying to get published is going to be a big hit, they will pass. In fact, only one of every four hundred people who send in a book to be published this way will succeed. Therefore, book publishing such as this works best by using a literary agent.
The second option for book publishing is by self-publishing. In this case, the writer would handle all aspects of getting the work out to the public to include writing, proofreading, printing, and then distributing. Some of the jobs associated with this kind of book publishing include artwork, editing and proofing, and printing and distribution. With artwork, the book would need a front and back cover. Unless the writer is also an artist, this portion of the book publishing project would need to be hired out.
Additionally, self-publishing requires excellent editing and proofing skills. If a book is not perfect, it will never succeed. Again, many writers can also edit and proof but if not, a professional might need to be hired. For printing, a book involves cover and inside pages. The best solution is by having the pages printed by a printing service. For distribution, the writer would need to determine the way in which the book would be distributed. Typically, this would be done by talking to different retailers or paying for a professional service.
The next type of book publishing is called subsidy publishing. For this situation, the writer actually pays to have a printer produce the book. However, to make money, the writer goes into agreement with the printer so he or she is paid royalties based on the number of books sold. This can be a great solution for some people but the pros and cons need to be carefully weighed to see if it would be a lucrative deal.
The last type of book publishing is with eBook publishing. Of all options, this is the newest but also one of the most popular. The process of writing a book and having it converted into an eBook, one that would be sold and distributed online is actually quite easy and affordable. For this option, the writer should also have a website that would used to promote the book.
